Stuff costs money and it doesn’t take a teenager very long to figure this out and start wanting cash of his own. Teenagers are always looking for was to make some money. Sometimes it’s hard to find a job, especially without any experience. Even if they do find a job, they rarely enjoy it or even make very much money.

A job is the first place most teenagers look to start making money. This isn’t always viable. Sometimes it’s hard to find a job and if they do, they often don’t get many hours. Another idea is to start a small business. Some teens and kids have started small businesses that grew into successful corporations.

You don’t need to make a million dollars with your business in order for it to be considered successful. You can start small and stay small and still make money. Some of the most common small business ideas for teens are lawn mowing, snow shoveling, babysitting, etc.

While babysitting might not seem like a business, it is. You are offering a service to parents to care for their kids while they are away. You are offering a service and in return being paid, usually, and hourly fee. As long as you are offering a good or service in exchange for payment, you are conducting a business.

Keep it professional and you will build more credibility in your business. The more credible you are the more word will get around about how great your business is. The greatest way to get a small business booming is to go viral. Get everyone talking about you and how great your service is. People will do this automatically if you do an exceptional job every time. Stay professional by coming up with a name for your business, a logo, fliers, and anything else that will make you a great business.

You don’t have to stick with just the basics if you are looking to start a business. Babysitting isn’t for everyone. Try selling snacks, candy, and/or drinks around a neighborhood, at parks, and in small towns and cities. You could even try selling candy and things to friends at school, but make sure you won’t get in trouble.

Tutoring is another idea. If you are great in a subject at school that many other people have difficulty with, you could set up a tutoring service. Talk with your teacher or guidance counselor to make sure it’s okay. You can even charge a discounted fee for tutoring several kids at once. For example, if you are great at algebra but many others are struggling, say that you can tutor one person for $8 an hour or a group of 3 people for $6 each for the hour.

Some people would rather get a job and work for wages. Others are natural entrepreneurs and will make more money with a small business and have much more fun. Be creative and give it a try.
